Guest Post Tutorial: Spring Yarn Wreath

Hi everyone! I'm super excited to be guest posting at Live.Love.Craft. This is my first guest post so I feel really honored that Alyssa asked me! Here's a little bit about myself. I've been blogging for a few years now mainly to keep in touch with family and friends, but just recently started up this DIY/recipes blog. I love crafting, creating, sewing (check out my Etsy shop, The Turquoise Pear), and cooking so this is the perfect outlet for me where I want to inspire and be inspired. I live in Chicago with my husband but I'm a southern girl at heart (born and raised). I'm a third grade teacher and I love what I do. All right, enough about me. Onto the good stuff! Today I will be showing you how to make a yarn wreath with felt flowers. This is a super easy project, that I recommend doing with some girlfriends, putting on a chick-flick and making a fun night of it. I myself enjoyed sitting outside in the 70 degree sunshine. A rare treat for March in Chicago.
Here's what you'll need: 1 wreath (mine has an 8" diameter)* 1 ball of yarn (You'll use about half) 1/4 yd felt in the color(s) of your choice (1/4 yard should get you about 8-12 flowers) hot glue gun/sticks *I originally made the wreath using an idea I had seen on Pinterest where you buy gray pipe insulation from Home Depot and duct tape it to make a DIY wreath. It didn't work. At least not for me. The wreath began to droop and I was slightly annoyed. Just buy a wreath from a craft store. It's only about $3-$5 more at Joann's or Michael's.
The How-To:
Start by tying a knot around the wreath. This will be your starting point. Add a dab of hot glue to hold it in place. It's best to wrap the yarn in sections using about 4-5 feet of yarn at a time. Any longer and it may get tangled and keeping it attached to the ball of yarn wasn't working well for me. How you wrap is completely up to you and your style, but I wrapped and overlapped. There was really no rhyme or reason. After you finish wrapping your yarn, keep it in place with a dot of hot glue then continue on with the next section. Continue on with this until the entire wreath is finished. This took me about 45 minutes to an hour. Again, it'd be super fun to hang out with girlfriends and chit-chat while doing this to make the time pass. Now it's time to make some cute felt flowers. You can use a DVD or CD to trace a cirle on the felt. I just cut a circle the best I could without a stencil. Start cutting the felt into a spiral. When you are almost to the center, leave a cirle about 1-2 inches wide. You'll eventually glue this onto the bottom of the wrapped flower to hold it in place. Starting where you first cut, begin twisting the fabric around itself tightly. You could add a dab of glue here and there, but if you are twisting it tight enough and supporting it with your fingers well you shouldn't need to. Why risk burning yourself with the hot glue gun anymore than you need to??? As you're spiraling your flower, give the fabric an occasional twist to add depth and texture. This is what I did. Or, you could just keep winding it up without any twists and this is what it would look like. It's just a personal preference. When you get to the end of your fabric with the circle, add some hot glue to the circle and press it against the bottom of the flower to hold is all in place. Do this for however many flowers you like. Usually an odd number of flowers look best together. Figure out an arrangement for the flowers on your wreath then hot glue them on. Finally, add a pretty ribbon and hang it on your door! I'm a neutral color girl but I also love pops of color. I chose more neutral colors for my wreath and decided that I could switch out the color of the ribbons for the different holidays and seaons of the year. I think this wreath would look gorgeous with a burnt orange ribbon for the fall. I would LOVE to see your yarn wreath if you end up doing this project. Please visit me over at Mr. and Mrs. Pear and if you like what you see, follow me. I'd love to have you tag along with me!

//sponsor spotlight: The Mrs//

Here is one of my new lovely sponsors this month! I'm so glad that Megan emailed me because she's honestly one of the nicest, loveliest bloggers I know! And on top of that, she's drop dead gorgeous!!! :) I can't wait to see her baby!

Hi there!   My name is Megan and I am the voice behind The Mrs. Over at my blog I like to chit chat about random things, but most recently my topics have been pregnancy, faith, and babies!! You see, I'm expecting my first-born in April of this year, and couldn't be more excited! I'm learning to lean on God and my faith in Him through this time as I learn about mother-hood.
I enjoy crafting & repurposing, too! My husband and I are in the process of creating our custom nursery. My bedding is all handmade by yours truly, and we have a mural up that I painted, too! We cannot wait to get it finished because we have so many fun projects ahead of us.
One of my features over at The Mrs is my "iBelieve" linky party. Each week I pick a topic concerning my faith and I just write what the Lord tells me. It is a linky party, yes... So come join in on Mondays!
Another feature is my Mommy Thoughts Thursday. On Thursdays I ask questions. Lots of questions about baby stuffs and mommy stuffs. This has been a great resource for me, and once baby girl is born, I will revisit them and share my experiences!  I recently opened a shop, too! In my shop you will find an array of creations! My sister is a photographer, and she is always looking for fun new props for me to make her! I'm also inspired by things that are natural & and vintage, but love the bright colors of life as well. Be sure to check it out! I don't do it for the money, I do it because I love to create, so my prices are reasonable!
If you ever have any questions feel free to contact me!

A Little Update

Alright here's an update on... well pretty much everything :)

I only post every-other day. Which unfortunately I'm still having a hard time doing, so I might have to post even less than that. It honestly makes me sad, but I've been super un-inspired recently as well as busy, and that certainly doesn't help me make stuff!

quick blog stats:
83,000 pageviews all time
252 followers
239 posts
500 average daily pageview. yeah it's dropping.
i think that's it...

I have been meaning to bring this topic up for a while now... if you can't tell i have this issue that i change hobbies/interests very often. One week I'm head over heels for acrylic painting, the next it's interior design, the next it's jewelry making, and the next week it's drawing detailed cars. You will never know what i'm going to be doing next though, which is actually sort of intriguing and exciting. When I started this blog I was all over crafting. It was my so called 'passion' of the moment. Hense the name Live. Love. Craft. It's almost a shame. I wish I would have named it something different. Something that encases me. something that would allow for 'niche' changes. Something that would let me show off whatever it is that i love, instead of being trapped to simply crafting.
now I tried to expand that to photography since that's another growing interest of mine. As it grows, my craftiness shrinks. I still get inspired, just not in a crafty way. I see a light fixture and i start planning what angle i could photograph it from and how i would edit it. i used to see a light fixture and immediately think of what color i could spray paint it and how i would decorate it or transform it.
*sigh* I'm not sure what to do. that's the plain and honestness of it. I can't change my name now. I can't change my content because you, my dear readers, are mostly following me because I'm a craft blog. {that's why I've tried to keep it slightly crafty. because i don't want to lose some of you.} but then, well, not to sound snotty but this IS my blog. I control it. I choose what I want you to see. I choose what I post. I choose everything but that you follow me. that's up to you.
I think I'm scared. i'm scared that if i change my content, that i'll lose you guys. I'll discourage you because crafting isn't my thing that much anymore. But I don't want to keep forcing myself to make things when i don't enjoy it that much anymore. I don't want to have forced excitment about my crafts. I want to show you what I love. No matter what that may be.

Any tips? Ideas? Suggestions?  I'd really like them right about now. it's kinda depressing...

ok well that was a long little bit wasn't it now? haha sorry about that ;) back to the updates!

Kasey encouraged me to start working on my etsy shop more. So i did. Because I love her :) I've added a few pairs of earrings so far and I'm working on some hair clips etc! If there's anything you'd like to see in my shop, please tell me!!! I really am relying on you guys to inspire me right now. Maybe you can get me back into crafting again! here's a glimpse of my favorite pair:

I used my great grandmother's old necklace to make them. So they're officially vintage. And their pretty inexpensive, so if you'd like some you can purchase them here. :)

Um yeah so I won't go too far into detail here, but my life is hectic.
#1 I joined a volleyball club. a very hard-core one. it's pretty intense and we have our first tournament {we don't play just games...} is tomorrow. i'm scared.
#2 I have my first dance ever tonight. I'm scared for that too! But i'm kind of excited because I'm wearing this super pretty vintage yellow dress that was my moms. And I just realized that I have no clue what I'm doing with my jewelry or hair. AHHHHhh. procrastinators for the win :p I hope i can pull this off. haha that's what I should be doing instead of writing this post... oh well ;)
#3 School's starting again. that explains itself pretty well.
#4 my room and my desk are a mess and I keep putting cleaning them off. :(
#5 I have to worry about this blog and my shop too!
#6 I'm trying to start a charity-ish thing so that takes a lot of time also.
#7 ugh I just remembered I have to read and take an hour test on scorekeeping for volleyball. and i have to get 100%. In 1 day. AHHH.
#8 I'd honestly rather quit all this and go hang out with my friends. lol

So yeah that's just what I'm thinking of right now... there's a lot more. joy.

ok well I better go get this stuff done... wish me luck! oh darn and i have to go find and buy shorts for volleyball. UGH. Ok this shorts thing makes me mad. like really mad. So before I started volleyball i SWORE I would never. ever. EVER. wear those gosh darnit stinky gross spandex shorts that everyone else wears. NEVER I SAY! Like... you know the whole rebellion with the "leggings aren't pants, sorry honey" thing? yeah I agree. it's just wrong. and now, I have to go wear these terrible spandex shorts. *sob* It's a rule for the games. we all have to look exactly alike. *sniff* I was going to invite some friends to some of my games... hah not now!!! I don't want anyone seeing me in those nasty things ;)

yeah so sorry about rambling... life's crazy and I gotta go!

xoxo,
Alyssa

Lovely Little Things...

My poor little Etsy shop I opened a while back has had no luck... very discouraging. :D I haven't posted many things because I... well... I guess I'm sort of afraid. Afraid that people won't like my stuff, afraid that no one will look at my shop, afraid to spend the money. The thing I love about my shop so far is that my prices are pretty inexpensive but the quality is great :) Just to let you guys know, because I guess I never officially announced it... I have an etsy shop and I want to sell something. My main goal when starting my shop was to not blog about it all the time. It drives me nutty when people do that. Like every other day "oh, here... I added this" "sale.. sale .. sale!!! Check it out!" you know? no offense if you do this.... I just don't like it :) Everyone is entitled to their own oppinion.

So here are the things I have in my shop at the moment... if you're interested in buying something... don't hesitate! You'll make one certain 14 year old girl the happiest girl in the world :D And I'll probably freak out and add something else awesome in there too :)
Here is my big bow ring. I just bought TONS of beautiful colors of felt, so if you're interested in a custom size of bow/ color... I'd LOVE to make one just for you! {no extra charge!} I gave a purple one to my friend for her birthday and she loves it!
They all have dark brass adjustable rings... i love them! They are actually really comfortable!
I have so many pairs of earrings I've made... it's not even funny anymore. but I've only posted 2 pairs and no one has bought any.. :'( Click here to see the item.
If you're interested in a custom color of earring or type, I'd love to make you one... if you can't tell that yet :)
My mustache card set: 3 large cards & envelopes hand painted with super cute mustaches :{ What's not to love?
And my other pair of earrings. I made a pair like these for my BFF's mom and she wears them ALL THE TIME! i love her so much :)

Pretty please go check out my shop and let me know if you see anything you'd like ;) I'm also thinking about adding some new and improved versions of these flower clips... any takers?

Love you all!

I’m so excited to tell you about this new sponsor!  MiniHandmade has a ton of super cute mini polymer clay items! From rings to magnets, they’ve got it all! I love the look of miniature clay food… I’ve tried making it before, and trust me, it takes a pro to be as good as MiniHandmadeMiniHandmade’s items are all great deals!  They have sales all the time, plus items start at just 2$!

Lets take a look at some of my favorites:

I love this pink rose ring! The sparkles make it really stand out!

These mini veggie charms are to die for!  They’d be great on a bracelet for a gardener, or, heck, just for anyone!

Check out these lovely white rose earrings!

I’m dying for all of these rose clips… you could easily dress them up or down.

MiniHandmade also has necklaces, key chains, bracelets, and beads!  I’d say my favorite things are the food tray magnets… you can just tell they put a ton of work into them!  I mean… look at all of the different elements that went into making this…

{you know what would be awesome? A bacon shaped into a heart on a necklace...}

So I got this super adorable cake necklace! Umm... soo cute! And it came on my birthday, which makes it even better!

See how small the stuff actually is! So awesome!

Head on over to MiniHandmade’s etsy shop and get something!  Their stuff would be great for gifts, too.
